Event Details

BVU proudly presents the third and final event of our Do Something series for 2010!

Since 2006, BVU has hosted Do Something! an educational event for community members interested in learning about a local issue and ways they can get involved as volunteers.

This year we are partnering with WYPR (88.1 FM) to discuss issues raised by their riveting Growing Up Baltimore series and giving participants an opportunity to connect with local nonprofits working to address them.  At this event partcipants will hear from Baltimore leaders and residents, including Fraser Smith, WYPR's Senior News Analyst, about the challenges facing our community, paying special attention to issues affecting our city's most vulnerable children and families.

The event's keynote speaker will be Shalita O'Neale, Founder & Executive Director of the Maryland Foster Youth Resource Center and a featured personality in WYPR's "Growing Up Baltimore" series.  A local leader serving vulnerable youth and families, O'Neale is herself a former foster youth who spent 19 years collectively in kinship and foster care.

After learning more about these groups' greatest concerns and needs such as navigating the foster care system, child abuse awareness and prevention, and youth homelessness, participants motivated to "Do Something!" will be directly connected with related volunteer opportunities.

This event is a perfect opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who are interested in learning about our city's social services and how to get involved through volunteerism.

Light fare and cocktails will be provided.  All proceeds support BVU, Greater Baltimore's center for volunteerism. Doors open at 5:30 pm - Program will start at 6:00 pm.

Nonprofit Guests:

CASA Baltimore City, Baltimore Homeless Youth Initiative, Baltimore Child Abuse Center, Maryland Foster Youth Resource Center, The Woodbourne Center, Alternative Directions, The Hiding Place Home for Girls

Cancellation Policy: No refunds will be given for registrations cancelled by the attendee less than 2 business days before the scheduled event.
